Changing your password

Your passwords for all school IT systems are synchronised so that you only need to change your password in one place and it then automatically updates all other systems for you.

You will receive emails automatically telling you when your password is about to expire.

To change your school password you have two options:

1. Log onto a school computer

  • Log onto any school computer
  • Press CTRL + ALT + DELETE and select the "Change a password..." option
  • Enter your current password and your new password twice and click the arrow.
  • Your new password must meet the requirements below

2. Change your password via BYOD or remotely

  • Visit https://password.queenmargarets.com and enter your user name  - adding @qms.n-yorks.sch.uk to the end of your user name.
  • Enter your current password
  • Enter your new password twice and click "Change password".
  • Your new password must meet the requirements below

Password Requirements

  • At least 8 characters long
  • Contain 3 of the following 4 things:
    • Lower case letters
    • Upper case letters
    • Numbers
    • Special characters
  • Not be a password you have used before
  • Not contain part of your name or user name
  • Not have three or more matching consecutive characters

Expired Passwords

If you let your password expire or do not change it in time then you must either log into a school computer and change your password or speak to IT Support to have your password manually reset. You can contact IT Support by telephoning 01904 727645.
